Geospatial

Geospatial data refers to data that is related to a particular point on the earth and is usually expressed in geographic coordinates such as latitude and longitude. It provides information about the location, geometry, and attributes of naturally occurring features and human-made physical assets including rivers, forests, mountain ranges, lakes, roads, structures, utilities, land parcels, and others.

The geospatial data can be obtained from many technologies and techniques such as GPS, satellite images, drones, aerial imagery, remote sensing, LiDAR, and conventional surveys. Geospatial technologies enable us to gather precise data about our physical environments on the earth's surface and provide an accurate picture of the same. The geospatial data generated from these sources is used in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

The unique feature of the geospatial data is the association of geographic location with descriptive data, called attributes. For instance, a road data set may include geographic location of the road, road name, its type, length, surface type, and condition.
