DRG

A Digital Raster Graphic (DRG) is a raster-based image created by scanning a paper topographic map and georeferencing it to real-world geographic coordinates. This process allows the map to be accurately displayed and used within Geographic Information Systems (GIS). DRGs preserve the visual appearance of traditional maps while enabling digital analysis and integration with other spatial datasets. They typically display features such as roads, rivers, contour lines, elevation, land cover, and administrative boundaries. DRGs are widely used for map referencing, navigation, land-use planning, environmental monitoring, emergency management, and resource management. Their compatibility with GIS software makes them valuable for overlaying with vector and satellite data, supporting accurate spatial analysis, decision-making, and geographic visualization.

Digital Raster Graphics (DRG) are scanned images of topographic maps that have been georeferenced, allowing them to align accurately with real-world coordinates in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). DRGs provide a reliable digital representation of traditional paper maps while preserving important cartographic details such as roads, rivers, contour lines, landmarks, and boundaries. Their compatibility with GIS software enables users to overlay vector data, satellite imagery, and other spatial datasets for comprehensive geographic analysis. DRGs are widely used by government agencies, researchers, planners, and environmental organizations for applications including urban planning, land management, disaster response, natural resource conservation, transportation planning, and infrastructure development. By combining the visual accuracy of topographic maps with digital accessibility, DRGs support efficient mapping, spatial analysis, and informed decision-making.
