BVLOS
Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) is a drone operation mode in which an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flies beyond the distance where the remote pilot can maintain direct visual contact. Unlike Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) operations, which require the drone to remain visible throughout the flight, BVLOS enables drones to travel longer distances and access remote or hard-to-reach areas. Safe BVLOS flights rely on advanced technologies, including long-range communication networks, satellite navigation (GNSS/GPS), real-time telemetry, onboard sensors, detect-and-avoid systems, and autonomous flight control software. These systems continuously transmit flight data, allowing operators to monitor the drone's location, altitude, speed, battery status, and surrounding environment from a ground control station. BVLOS operations improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, and expand the capabilities of drones across industries. They are widely used for infrastructure inspection, precision agriculture, power line and pipeline monitoring, logistics and delivery, disaster response, environmental monitoring, mapping, surveying, and public safety, making them a key advancement in modern drone technology.

Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations are transforming the capabilities of drone technology by allowing unmanned aerial systems (UAS) to fly beyond the pilot's direct line of sight while maintaining secure communication and control through advanced navigation, communication, and safety systems. Unlike traditional Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) operations, BVLOS enables drones to cover much larger distances, making them more efficient for large-scale commercial and industrial applications. These operations are widely used for inspecting power lines, pipelines, railways, bridges, and telecommunications infrastructure, as well as for surveying, mapping, precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, disaster response, search-and-rescue missions, and package delivery. By reducing the need for manual inspections and enabling rapid data collection over extensive areas, BVLOS improves operational efficiency, lowers costs, enhances worker safety, and delivers timely, high-quality geospatial insights. As aviation regulations and drone technologies continue to advance, BVLOS is expected to become a key driver of innovation and large-scale drone adoption across multiple industries.
